Head to Mahia for the day

Swim at the Mahia beach, watch rockets launch from anywhere in Mahia. Take a boat out for fishing, or fish from any of the beaches.

Want views take the 20 minute walk up Mokotahi the view is breath taking (starting point is just passed the shop). Our prime minister got engaged up there.

Between October and April the markets on a Sunday is a great place to spend the morning. Want to play golf – Mahia has a golf course.


Visit Waikaremoana

There are many walks including one to Waikareiti where you can hire a row boat before returning. This is a nice walk for the scenery, take a picnic and enjoy Sandy Bay Hut .

For the more adventurous there is a 3-4 day walk around the whole of Lake Waikaremoana.


Wairoa Township

Do the Wairoa Township Riverside Walkway. 1.5 hours easy walking starting at the lighthouse ending up Pilot Hill near Whakamahia Beach – great for fishing.

Visit the museum in town and check out the history and artefacts this great little town has. Entry is by cash donation.

Check out the shops in Wairoa – there will be something for everyone – just have a look!

Food – we have some amazing cafes in wairoa.

For the pedal pushers Wairoa has an Adventure park in Grant Street with 5 different tracks ranging in levels of difficulty.

Every Saturday there are markets found just outside the Community centre – home crafts and food.

While staying you need to check out Morere. Great food available at the Morere Tea rooms and across the road is Morere Hotsprings. There are more amazing views and walks found here or just relax in the hot mineral pools.
